Description
It would be great to be able to download media easily together with attribution and other data. Most licenses require attribution, so it should be obvious why.
The metadata should include, e.g.:
- License, author name;
- Upload date, title, URL;
- Description?
Maybe it could also optionally include comments?
The metadata file should have a file name beginning similarly to the media’s file name, so that the files show together in a file manager. It could be a sidecar file, but what if you download a thumbnail?
The feature should be remarkable and easy to use for an inexperienced user (who is likely to miss the attribution requirement).
In a certain sense it would be nice to do this, but making this kind of metadata "sticky" is hard. One option is to use embedded XMP metadata, though almost nothing knows how to consume that in the first place, and it only works with certain formats.
If we were going to do something like this, I think it would be good to add a plugin that gets activated during processing and fiddles with the metadata during processing. I'd be happy with including such a plugin with mediagoblin! However, I think that including this by default in the normal workflow is possibly a bit too messy.
I'm closing this ticket for now, but if you feel strongly about this we could reopen this as an "XMP plugin" ticket maybe?
