Unusual user menu in the top right

• there’s only a triangle instead of showing a username or picture
• it looks like it’s intended for mobile use because it expands to full width (looks good on mobile ;)
• elements in there seem unsorted, and are not shown in a proper list
• there’s no distinction between notifications and the menu

Hi Jan,

Thanks very much for this feedback and sorry for the slow response. It's interesting to know that this looked like a drop down menu. It's really more of an information panel that mixes both links and status information, and folds away because it takes up quite a bit of space.

Deansy has today proposed a patch in #989 that would make this panel default to being open, but once closed, it will remember your preference. I think that might help address your concerns. Beyond that, would you be interested in sketching out (visually) your ideas for how the panel might be displayed? Look forward to seeing them!

(I'm just adjusting the status because I think this is more of a usability "enhancement". The panel works ok, you're just suggesting that it could be better displayed.)

I'll close this ticket for now, as I think Dealsy's work in #989 has somewhat improved the usability of the top menu. We're always looking to improve the user experience though, so so please don't hesitate to reopen this ticket if you'd like to make further suggestions.
