Description
Asheesh Laroia has rightly pointed out that talking about "owning your own data" is misleading, esp if extrapolating free culture from free software, "data shouldn't have owners". Think of better phrasing, update http://mediagoblin.org/about/
"Also, people should be able to own their data." to something nicer.

- entrust data to those with whom they share a common interest
- entrust data to those with whom their interests are {more closely, better} aligned
- entrust data with social interests in mind, rather than financial
- liberate their data from for-profit networks
- liberate themselves from systems designed to profit financially from their data
- entrust data to networks run on social capital -- not financial
- liberate their data with social capital in mind -- not financial
I emphasized my favorite so far. :) It's a complex issue!

This is updated. "own your data" -> "free your data from proprietary control".

How about "people should be able to be stewards of their own data"?
A bit more verbose, but closer to what we mean.
