#218 closed defect (fixed)

Announce only mailing list

Description (last modified by Will Kahn-Greene)

I'd like people to be able to get news from us without comments.
The target is press and other busy, but interested, people who
would get notes when we blog and **occasional** press type email
from me.

If there's an off the rack way to have the blogs contents converted
via html2text or using a rss2email script, that's cool but
otherwise I will write a 1-2 sentence abstract and include the blog
link.

I'd be the only poster on this list. People who sign up for it
can't reply to the list. In the nitty gritty of permissions, it
probably makes sense for Will and Chris to be able to post, but in
practice, I don't picture you ever needing to post to that list.

Deb

Owner: changed from Will Kahn-Greene to Deb Nicholson
Will is properly concerned that the auto-posting is prone to error,
so I wonder.. there must be a few sites that do this already. Maybe
we can use them?

`http://www.feedmyinbox.com/ <http://www.feedmyinbox.com/>`_ or
`http://blogtrottr.com/ <http://blogtrottr.com/>`_

Give it
`http://mediagoblin.org/news/index.xml <http://mediagoblin.org/news/index.xml>`_
and your email address and it should work. I think that should
satisfy the requirements and avoid another list and another cronjob
to maintain.

Is that satisfactory? I can set up a page on the wiki telling
people how to do it who are press-like.

If we're going to go with setting up our own mailing list with
mailman, I need the following information:

1. name of the list (GMG Announce ?)
2. email address for the list
   (`announce@mediagoblin.org <mailto:announce@mediagoblin.org>`_ ?)
3. text for the footer for every email
4. announcement text that you get when you sign up for the list

We probably want to blog about this list and also add it to the documentation. Those are tasks for a different issue.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
